  • Only male crickets chirp.
  • Bees are found on every continent except Antartica.
  • A cockroach can live for up to 3 weeks without a head. (Off with his head!)
  • Insects do not breathe through their mouths. They inhale oxygen & exhale carbon dioxide through holes (called spiracles) which are found on their exoskeleton. These holes are typically found near their thorax and abdomen so it can appear that they breathe through their sides.
  • The average housefly lives for about a month.(Way less if it’s found in my kitchen!)
  • A praying mantis is the only insect that can turn its head.
  • A mosquito flaps its wings 500 times each second. (Yep, no typo. 500 times a SECOND!)
  • A snail can sleep for 3 straight years. (Much like your average teenager!)
