Fun Fact

Let’s talk about paper margins. ???? (Hang with me! This is actually pretty interesting!) Ever wonder why we have them? Sure they’re great for taking notes in or making sure your handwriting stays inside certain parameters but that wasn’t their original purpose. Years ago when paper was invented, people had serious issues with rodents as roommates. ???? After spending precious hours writing by oil lamps and using ink & feathers, people would get upset when their four-legged roommates would nibble on their paper. Margins on paper were invented to ensure the rodents didn’t destroy any important writing.

Enjoy a good virtual run? (Or a virtual walk — no shame in that game!)
Wanna meet an amazing foundation? (Meet The Dragonfly Foundation –> https://dragonfly.org)

Check out this link for the dragonfly virtual runs. If this gorgeous stained-glass sun catcher medal doesn’t win you over, know that funds raised in the registration for their 5K, 10K and half marathon go to support families affected by pediatric cancers. Win-win! Who else is in?

Thousands by Thousands

Remember that kids song where “the ants go marching two by two?” Uhhh…how about the ants go marching THOUSANDS BY THOUSANDS! The few ants you may see on your kitchen counter or bathroom floor are scouring for food and water sources for thousands of ants you don’t see that live in their nearby colony.  The first step in eliminating an ant colony is identifying the type of ant species which will help determine the necessary course of treatment. Store bought “quick fixes” like Raid are just that — a quick fix…but only for the problems you see. When sprayed with a product like Raid, the ants will most likely die. When they don’t return to the colony with food, the colony will simply send out more ants in search of food. To the tune of thousands of ants! One of Blue Chip’s most popular ant elimination treatments allow the ants to take food sources back to the colony that, over a short period of time, work to eliminate the entire colony.  Many of our professional grade products are sold at our Ballwin location (14931 Manchester Road) or we’d be more than happy to have one of our certified and licensed pest control technicians come to your home or business for an thorough inspection and treatment. Let us know how we can best help you!

Blue Chip’s Founder: Scott Phillips

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that the founder of Blue Chip Pest Services, Scott Phillips, passed away yesterday morning after suffering a severe stroke last week. He is survived by his two children, Jeff Phillips & Kim Sieveking, and his 4 grandchildren. He was a great father and grandfather who led by example and valued family above all.
An avid member of the community, this veteran was very involved with the Chesterfield American Legion, the West Country Rotary, the Jaycees and various Chambers of Commerce around the St. Louis area. He left a big impact wherever he was involved.
At this time, due to COVID-19 and restrictions in our community, there will be no visitation or service. He will be laid to rest at New St. Marcus Cemetery next to his loving wife of 45 years, Pat Phillips.

Tick-Borne Diseases On the Rise

In the middle of this pandemic, more people are spending more time outdoors talking walking, hiking trails and enjoying parks. This increased outdoor time provides us with sunshine, fresh air and exercise but it also increases our chances of exposure to ticks. Reports of tick-borne diseases have been on a steady incline over the past few years. To make matters worse, some of their symptoms (fever, headaches and muscle aches, for example) are similar to symptoms of COVID-19. Protect yourself when you’re outside by checking these things off your list:

✅ Wear long-sleeves and pants whenever possible.
✅ Wear light colored clothes.
✅ Stay in the center of trails/paths, away from vegetation.
✅ Use an insect repellent with at least 20% DEET.
✅ Check your body & your pets for ticks when you return home. If you find a tick, here is a reminder on how to remove it safely:

In the meantime, you can find more information on ticks, what you can do to help control them and how we can help by clicking on this link:
